The heart charity, which has revealed that almost three quarters of children do not think fast food is a treat, launched its hard-hitting Food4Thought campaign to combat growing obesity problems in today’s youngsters. With the use of the internet, the scheme aims to encourage 11-13 year olds to think about the food they eat and be more aware of junk food marketing tricks. What’s more, the charity is calling for the Government to ban all marketing of junk food to youngsters, including on food and drink packaging, and on the internet, after new figures released showed that an astonishing 92% of seven to 14-year-olds in Yorkshire and the Humber do not think chips or fries are a treat. As part of the campaign the British Heart Foundation will also be issuing innovative teaching packs to 2,500 schools throughout the UK in a bid to help kids see through junk food marketing messages.
