A fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine and author of numerous journal articles on sport medicine and physical fitness, Keller has examined the relationship between physical inactivity and the development of obesity in children. Ray Cali , a 25-year veteran of teaching mathematics and physical education in the Rochester City School System, will discuss the approaches to childhood obesity from the physical and health education points of view. Fasano is the leader of the YMCA’s pilot CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) program, which incorporates the recommended amount of daily exercise into the YMCA’s existing programs for children. The symposium named in his honor is part of a recently established partnership between the divinity school and Ithaca College that draws upon the respective strengths and histories of the two institutions. In October 2006, the school formally became the home campus for the Rochester component of Ithaca’s physical therapy program, in which students spend the summer prior to their junior year and conduct all of their graduate study in affiliation with the University of Rochester and Strong Memorial Hospital.
