Childhood Obesity News - Foundation begins battle on childhood obesity - Rochester Democrat and Chronicle

The Eat Well Play Hard program is one of several to receive support from the Greater Rochester Health Foundation, which announced on Monday its first strategic grants in what will be a $50 million anti-obesity funding effort over the next decade. In addition, about $300,000 in foundation funding will support the Eat Well and Be Well activity and nutrition program for the 1,435 children in Action for a Better Community’s Head Start preschool program and Early Head Start program for infants and toddlers. Unpublished research indicates that obesity rates among children ages 2 to 4 in the state Women Infants and Children nutrition program have begun to drop in the past couple of years after steadily rising since 1989. This is a major factor in the cost of health insurance which was risen at double-digit rates for the better part of a decade due to the anti-market nature of government meddling in the insurance market.
