(Childhood Obesity News) Overweight children risk being 'Biggest Losers' - Daily Press

We all readily accept that our abundant society and modern lifestyle have created this serious health problem, but when you consider the issue of obesity, it is our children who are the biggest losers of all. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , in the past 30 years the childhood obesity rate has more than doubled for preschool children between ages 2 and 5 and adolescents age 12 to 19. In an effort to address the issue and improve the health of our children, WHRO has undertaken an initiative we call “Surviving Abundance. And through the generous support of the Obici Healthcare Foundation, our Center for Regional Citizenship is working with parents and early childhood and elementary educators in western Tidewater to increase awareness and seek solutions which will lead to policy and practice changes that promote healthier choices and healthier children. The solutions will be found in sustained, long-term efforts, and success will depend on changing hearts and minds, policies and practices and ultimately choices and habits. It will take all our citizens, young and old, working together to turn losers into winners and to give our children a healthy present and future. Read Childhood Obesity
