McGuire said he was “lucky enough to get the grant” in cooperation with Nancy Bogle of the DeKalb County Health Department. According to the editor of CATCH Magazine, “CATCH is the most studied childhood health promotion program in North America, with extensive evaluation in more than 80 scientific journals. For more than 15 years, the evidence has shown that CATCH helps to change behaviors, sustain them, and reduce the rate of child obesity. According to Steven Kelder, co-director of the Michael and Susan Dell Center for Advancement of Healthy Living, “Worldwide, from developing to industrialized countries, the obesity epidemic is causing communities and schools to change their approaches to child health. Because Cortland has a very small gym, teachers are supposed to do some physical activities with kids in the classroom, and McGuire goes into the classrooms at times. Read Childhood Obesity
