Obesity in Irish children has reached epidemic levels, it has been warned. UCD School of Public Health Associate Professor Patrick Wall said overweight kids risk contracting serious health problems such as diabetes or heart disease unless action is taken to help reverse the trend. He was speaking at the launch of a new report highlighting youngsters’ attitudes to diet, which found kids were more concerned with the social implications of being overweight rather than the danger posed to their health. It also revealed children from low-income backgrounds had poorer diets with family dinners consisting of takeaways two-to-three times a week. Read Childhood Obesity
