The county will run a comprehensive public awareness campaign including improvements to bicycle and pedestrian trails, as well as programs in preschools and child care centers, pediatric practices, hospitals, schools and farmers’ markets. Terri Wallace, executive director of Partnership for Health, which is the Healthy Carolinians Task Force in the county, will be the coordinator of the project. There will also be a program to train all PE teachers in the schools on a K-8 physical education curriculum and training for day care center staff on ideas for nutritious meals and activities. The project will also work with farmers’ markets to encourage residents to buy and eat local fruits and vegetables,” Wallace said in the release. Read Childhood Obesity
