Media perceptions of childhood obesity are misleading parents’ understanding of the growing health problem, according to the Department of Health . As a result many parents in the UK don’t realise that their child is obese, putting them at risk of obesity-related illnesses and health problems. The Health Survey for England indicates that according to the UK National BMI percentiles classification, around three in 10 boys and girls aged between two and 15 were classed as either overweight or obese (31% and 29% respectively).
