The Pediatric Overweight Education and Research clinic combines the expertise of a physician, exercise physiologist, psychologist and dietitian to help children develop yearlong plans to address their weight. In Indiana, almost 14 percent of youths are above the 95th percentile for height and weight, which means they are larger than 95 percent of their peers of the same sex, according to an Indiana State Department of Health study released last year. Staff members said the new clinic might also help youngsters who are overweight but not necessarily candidates for the clinic. Her daughter’s pediatrician referred Cammie her to the clinic in the hope of lowering her risk of developing the heart disease and diabetes that plague other family members. Read Childhood Obesity
