A study from the University of Illinois has shown that a ban on the advertising of fast-food restaurants like McDonald’s could reduce childhood obesity by 14-18%, depending on the age group in question. The recent study coincides with a 2006 study by the Institute of Medicine, which conceded a link between advertising and obesity, but failed to provide any hard evidence between them. According to the Center for Diseases Control and Prevention, one third of children in the US under the age of 18 are overweight or obese.
