According to lead researcher Colin Palmer, from the University of Dundee in Scotland, a variation in this gene called FTO, caused children in a study to eat on average 100 extra calories at every meal. According to Palmer children with the gene variant, may not necessarily eat more food, just tend to choose food higher in fat. This gene variant, maybe partially to blame for the vast obesity epidemic that is sweeping across America.
