MARS HILL – After a few teachers at Mars Hill Elementary started eating healthy foods and exercising more, they began thinking of ways to pass along their new habits to students. Three teachers teamed up with the parent-teacher organization for Childhood Obesity Week, which will end Saturday with a 5K and fun run at the school. The entire school is trying to log enough miles to equal a walk across North Carolina and back, and so far they’re about three-quarters of the way to their goal. This week, staff at Mars Hill Elementary has been conducting a Childhood Obesity Program where students participate in daily activities to teach them ways to stay active and eat healthy.
