According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, surveys indicate that - beginning around 1980 - obesity rates started rising sharply. A survey conducted between 1976-80 revealed that 15 percent of adults aged 20-74 were obese; in the 2003-04 survey, obesity rates climbed to 32. For many families, consistently purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables might be difficult; still, paying a little more now may help to avoid dangerous health issues later in life. According to the CDC, 10-14 percent of adults living in Iowa were obese in 1990; in 1995, those rates rose to 15-19 percent; in 2006, 25-29 percent of adults in our state were obese. Childhood obesity can often lead to adult obesity, which in turn leads to more serious health issues later on in life.
